The Ljungan Virus - A Novel Pathogen

The Ljungan virus was discovered in the mid-1990s. The initial findings were made among bank voles, which are the most common mammal in Scandinavia. The Ljungan virus was later discovered in several animal species causing diseases such as diabetes, perinatal death and malformations in several animal species.

A number of scientific reports have recently suggested that Ljungan virus may be a human pathogen causing significant morbidity and mortality. Research interest are increasing around the world.
